About us
Established in 2007, Deven P. Brawley and d'shire dance collective maintains a unique artistic presence in Southern California as the first all-male dance company. The company thrives on performing and teaching a diverse body of dances that explores the experiences woven through the fabric of human existence. Brawley's exploration of his own voice as an emerging artist serves as the point of departure for most of the company’s choreographic creations. ddc fuses athleticism, power, imagery, and intense strength, showcasing the talents of San Diego’s finest male dancers. The company operates as a collaboration between dancers, community, and regular guest artists. We conduct both performances and workshops to inspire broad participation in dance as a path to creating individual expression, celebration of diversity, and community transformation.
ddc is a network of artists dedicated to creating a dynamic outlet for progressive gay voices through dance performance. We strive to challenge the intellect, imagination, and moral expectations of our artists as well as our audience. Working with contemporary contexts, we create innovative and exciting dance performances for everyone to advance dialogues, challenge the mind, and entertain audiences in San Diego, the US, and abroad.
"I believe that dance communicates man’s deepest, highest and most truly spiritual thoughts and emotions far better than words, spoken or written.” Ted Shawn, 1830 |
